The Best Friend An utterly gripping psychological thriller with a breathtaking twist eBook Shalini Boland
I like Shalini Boland books, in some respects, her descriptions of emotions and reactions make me feel like she herself has been through some of the scenarios she postulates. She describes some of the reactions of a frightened ( but strong) woman better than any other author I've come across. The Best Friend terrified me, it seemed like such a no-win situation, right from the beginning there was an ominous feeling that the relationship between the two women was going to a very dark place. The concurrent story that happens in the distant past that ultimately becomes part of the current story was well done and different than most. I won't give anything away...it's a frightening story that could happen to anyone and with a very satisfying ending.Tags : Amazon.com: The Best Friend: An utterly gripping psychological thriller with a breathtaking twist eBook: Shalini Boland: Kindle Store, ebook,Shalini Boland,The Best Friend: An utterly gripping psychological thriller with a breathtaking twist,Bookouture,Fiction Psychological,Fiction Thrillers Suspense
The Best Friend An utterly gripping psychological thriller with a breathtaking twist eBook Shalini Boland Reviews
I am addicted to books by this author and read them in days because I have to see what is going to happen. The style of writing pulls you in and keeps you on the fast track until the end. Sometimes I guess part or even all of what is going on but it moves so quickly I don't have time to have the theory gel. In this one, the protagonist is a bit naive, but the antagonist is so evil that the story is so good!
I could not put this book down! This can be a hood and bad thing! I have other things to do. Yet I HAD to see what was going to happen in this book. Was she really a good friend? She seemed so nice, and I needed a friend. This book is awesome. You go through so many emotions. The ending is a nail biter. I don't give many 5 stars but this one deserves it!
I really enjoyed this book...it's reminiscent of Girl on the Train. It definitely held my interest and was an easy, fast read. My only criticism is of the main character/narrator, in that some of her actions didn't seem very realistic. An example (without giving away too much of the plot), she spends pages talking about wanting to get the antagonist out of her life, only to stupidly and unnecessarily go to her husband's apartment. And I think it's safe to say, most women would have unfriended Darcy MUCH sooner than Louisa does. Some of the plot is predictable, and there aren't a whole lot of shocking twists or turns. That being said, much of its appeal is in its simplicity. Great ending! It's sort of like a really good Lifetime movie!
I really don't like stories featuring insecure, self-doubting women who are easily overwhelmed. That's made worse when a man swoops in the save the day and still worse when it includes the trope that all women just want to keep their family together and happy. Those are all here. Predictably, the woman rallies in the end and becomes strong, only to return to being bland and featureless once the evil-doer has received their punishment. Yes, there is a twist at the end, but it's a bit of a rabbit out of a hat. If you're a fan of easy-to-read cozy mysteries, this fills the bill. If you like more challenging plots, you'll likely be disappointed here. On the plus side, the author is a skillful writer. The clarity and simplicity of her sentences really kept the story flowing without letting awkward syntax get in the way.
It's one of those books you can't stop reading..... you're anxious to see how it's all going to turn out....but, you don't want it to end either! I hate it when I start reading a book...get through a few chapters....have to stop....and then when I pick it up to read again.... I have to go back a few pages because I can't remember what happened, or who the characters are. NOT SO with The Best Friend..... it grabbed me from the start and I couldn't wait to get back to it and pick up right where I left off. I really like the author's style of writing.....think I finished this book in 2 days. It was the first time I read anything by Shalini Boland...so, I had to check out what else she has written. Within the next few weeks I read The Secret Mother and The Girl from the Sea.....loved them both also. Just ordered Perfect Family....so, I'm kind of hooked on this auther!
Wow, this book had me right away and I read it in two sittings. The character development was excellent and I really felt such empathy for Louisa. The author really has a way with words and she is now on my must-read list.
I'd like to say more but I don't want to give anything away even inadvertently. I will say this however, I loved the ending. I think it was perfect. Very highly recommended!
But i had read this before. Has this been released under another title? I love her books...no need to cheat me in to buying the sme thing twice..what a rip....
