Loved this book as a kid. May get it for my own, once he's a little older.
The pics are bright and saturated just like the cover. Basically, a poltergeist invades the life of a family. Each family member is described, and their relationships as well to Horace, the main character. The book is read from two points of view- one from the poltergeist, the other from a general narrator. The poltergeist is lively, sing-song, and wordy on black pages with white printing, and the narrator reads in rhyming words very much in the style of "This is the House that Jack Built". They build up to the noted person's relation to Horace; black printing on white pages. Pics have a lot of action, what with the poltergeist throwing items around the place. There are numerous two-page spreads and you can even read the labels on food products flung out of the cabinets.

"Here is Mabel, come to dinner, sister of Mary, setting the table, sister-in-law of Harry, strong and able, aunt of Doris, dressed in plaid, aunt of Horace, good and bad, who lives in a four-room apartment."
..." And if I wasn't a ghost, (and since no one can see me), then who would I be? Not me! Who, who, who? Then whoever would I be? Who, who, who, who..."

Kids love reading and/or hearing it, and adults like to play with the words.

Anyway, if Horace is a preteen, it explains a lot.

Dedication in book "This book is dedicated to all parents, librarians, and teachers who will read this book aloud in two voices." Very cute. It is somewhat alarming to think that people read books like drones and need instructions.

Charming mystery. Who's up for "The Exorcist"?!
